California 4-H Horse Classic

Welcome to the 2012 15th Annual California 4-H Horse Classic! In 2012, the Classic will again be one event dedicated to over 4,500 4-H horse project members statewide. This event is the qualifier to attend the Western National Roundup held each year in Denver, Colorado. To see the results for the 2011 - 2012 Roundup, click here. We invite everyone to join us in sharing a passion for horses. In 2009, participation increased another 50% from 2008!

The championship horse show provides the opportunity for 4-H riders to compete at a level beyond local, county or regional events, while the educational contests allow members to showcase their equine knowledge. This one event will continue to build networks between counties with a common interest in strengthening 4-H equine education and establish new friendships between 4-H members and leaders. The goals of the CA Horse Classic are to:

Establish new friendships with fellow 4-H members and leaders
Encourage networking between counties to build leadership with a common interest
Provide opportunities for youth statewide to share their passion for horses
Participate in social and educational programs by being a participant, not a spectator
Experience and develop greater personal growth
Continue to develop leadership and citizenship skills
Share personal experiences with others through meaningful growth and development
Promote good sportsmanship
Provide a unique opportunity for horse project members to compete on a level beyond the county, district or regional basis

Educational Contest will include individual and team Demonstrations, Public Speaking, Horse Bowl, Hippology, and Horse Judging.

The Horse Show will include English, Western, Gymkhana, and Jumping (by ability). You must pre-qualify 1st, 2nd, or 3rd placings at the local level to participate. New this year will be a tenderfoot division where 4-H members who are novice riders can compete without qualifying.
