Washington, D.C. Focus Programs are open to all adult 4-H leaders and to all youth members who have completed their sophomore year in high school or will be 16 years of age by the time of travel. The National 4-H Center is requiring contract commitments for the Washington Focus Program in November. New York City! An exciting city that is the hub of international microcosms. Attend a briefing at the United Nations, take the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building and gaze over the New York skyline. Tour the financial center of Wall Street, take the ferry boat to the Statue of Liberty and research the names of your ancestors that arrived in America at Ellis Island. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in the evening experience the excitement of Broadway shows.
Global Journey is a stimulating, varied, and intensive program that will sharpen your knowledge of global environments, international economics, cross cultural understanding, and political affairs. If you are interested in exploring America's role in the world, this is a program just for you! Registration Fee Includes:
Delegates need approximately $250 personal spending money for snacks, souvenirs, and meals not included in the program fee.
"Heritage Trail I" and "Heritage Trail II"For those who wish to travel during this week but prefer to limit their travel to Washington, D.C. (To travel on the Heritage Trail trip, a 4-H leader must accompany the county delegation) These two adventures are designed for those who choose to limit their travel to just one week. The trips, offered two different weeks this summer, will be similar. Come and celebrate America and discover the roots of its glorious past on this special seven day adventure to the Washington Focus Program at the National 4-H Center. You will experience a glowing sense of pride and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of American heritage. During your program at the 4-H Center you will discuss challenging issues facing our country today. Take a look behind the scenes in our nation's capital and meet your legislators. Be involved in workshops, tours, and assemblies in Washington, D.C. that will further your study of America's role at this time and in the future. This unique program combines educational workshops and simulations with field trips that will provide you with a deeper understanding and appreciation of American heritage. Registration Fee Includes:

Begin your program with the Citizenship Washington Focus Program at the National 4-H
Center and begin discussing the challenging issues facing our country today. Take a look behind the scenes in our nation's capital and meet your legislators. Be involved in workshops, tours, and assemblies in Washington, D.C. that will further your study of America's role at this time and in the future.
Travel to 1781 to experience the birth of a new nation. At Yorktown Victory Center, discover the events that led to war and victory and set the stage for our present government. Step into a Continental Army Camp to experience the hardships under which our freedom was won, and partake in the farm life necessary for maintaining food and clothing. Visit one of Great Britain's most prosperous colonies from 1699-1789, Colonial Williamsburg. This center of politics, commerce, and culture has been preserved as a 173 acre living history museum with over 500 restored buildings including the Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, the courthouse, taverns, homes, craft shops, the gaol (jail) and Burton Parish Church. A combination of guided tours, evening performances, a tavern meal, and "on your own" explorations will stimulate your ideas about the past and what it means to be an American.
