Washington, D.C. Focus Programs are open to all adult 4-H leaders and to all youth members who have completed their sophomore year in high school or will be 16 years of age by the time of travel.

The National 4-H Center is requiring contract commitments for the Washington Focus Program in November. Therefore, county 4-H offices will complete on-line registration on the
California 4-H web site by November 5, 2007.
$700 non-refundable deposit and a complete registration form is
due to county offices for input by October 30, 2007.
A second payment of $500.00 for air travel is due January 14, 2008.
The balance is due to the State 4-H Office by March 31, 2008.

"Global Journey"

For those who wish to take advantage of this complete study travel trip to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York.


     Explore America
and its role as a global nation in this exciting 11 day program. Following your participation in the issue-based Washington Focus Program at the National 4-H Center, you will have the opportunity to further your study of America's role in the world by journeying on to Philadelphia and New York City. In Philadelphia you can stroll through Independence Square where you can almost feel the history that surrounds you. Tour Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and Old City Hall -- birthplaces of America's freedom. Board the bus with stops at the Benjamin Franklin Museum, the Liberty Bell and the Philadelphia Mint, all within the historic area.

     New York City! An exciting city that is the hub of international microcosms. Attend a briefing at the United Nations, take the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building and gaze over the New York skyline. Tour the financial center of Wall Street, take the ferry boat to the Statue of Liberty and research the names of your ancestors that arrived in America at Ellis Island. Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art and in the evening experience the excitement of Broadway shows.

Global Journey is a stimulating, varied, and intensive program that will sharpen your knowledge of global environments, international economics, cross cultural understanding, and political affairs. If you are interested in exploring America's role in the world, this is a program just for you!

Registration Fee Includes:

  • Round trip airfare from a Northern and Southern California airport to Washington, D.C. and New York City.
  • 11days/10nights lodging and most meals. Delegates will buy their meals in New York City. (Airlines do not serve a meal.)
  • Ground transportation to/from the DC and NY airports and field tours in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
  • Admission to all program activities and citizenship backpack.
  • Mandatory pre-travel orientation program.

Delegates need approximately $250 personal spending money for snacks, souvenirs, and meals not included in the program fee.

The Capitol

    These two adventures are designed for those who choose to limit their travel to just one week. The trips, offered two different weeks this summer, will be similar. Come and celebrate America and discover the roots of its glorious past on this special seven day adventure to the Washington Focus Program at the National 4-H Center. You will experience a glowing sense of pride and gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of American heritage.

    During your program at the 4-H Center you will discuss challenging issues facing our country today. Take a look behind the scenes in our nation's capital and meet your legislators. Be involved in workshops, tours, and assemblies in Washington, D.C. that will further your study of America's role at this time and in the future. This unique program combines educational workshops and simulations with field trips that will provide you with a deeper understanding and appreciation of American heritage.

Registration Fee Includes:

  • Round trip airfare from a Northern or Southern California airport to/from Washington, D.C.
  • 7 days/6 nights lodging and most meals. (Airlines do not serve a meal.)
  • Ground transportation to/from the airport & for all program field trips.
  • Pre-conference study materials and California 4-H Citizenship backpack.
  • Mandatory pre-travel orientation program.

Delegates need $100 personal spending money for snacks, souvenirs, and meals not included in the program fee.

"Road to Democracy"

For those who wish to take advantage of this complete study travel trip to Washington, D.C., Jamestown, Yorktown, and Williamsburg.

    Begin your program with the Citizenship Washington Focus Program at the National 4-H Center and begin discussing the challenging issues facing our country today. Take a look behind the scenes in our nation's capital and meet your legislators. Be involved in workshops, tours, and assemblies in Washington, D.C. that will further your study of America's role at this time and in the future.

Then journeying back in time
to 1607 and experience the struggle of a colony being birthed on a new continent. A guided exploration into the living history sites at Jamestown Settlement lets you gain a new understanding of the culture and society of a Powhattan Indian Village. Imagine the 144 day voyage as you climb on the three replicated ships. Relive the life of a 17th century colonist in the New World by joining live demonstrations at James Fort.

Lincoln

     Travel to 1781 to experience the birth of a new nation. At Yorktown Victory Center, discover the events that led to war and victory and set the stage for our present government. Step into a Continental Army Camp to experience the hardships under which our freedom was won, and partake in the farm life necessary for maintaining food and clothing.

     Visit one of Great Britain's most prosperous colonies from 1699-1789, Colonial Williamsburg. This center of politics, commerce, and culture has been preserved as a 173 acre living history museum with over 500 restored buildings including the Capitol, the Governor's Mansion, the courthouse, taverns, homes, craft shops, the gaol (jail) and Burton Parish Church. A combination of guided tours, evening performances, a tavern meal, and "on your own" explorations will stimulate your ideas about the past and what it means to be an American.

  • Round trip airfare from a Northern and Southern California airport to/from Washington, D.C. and Virginia.
  • 9 days/8 nights lodging and most meals at the National 4-H Center and in the Williamsburg area. (Airlines do not serve a meal).
  • Ground transportation to/from the airport, throughout the Washington Focus Program and to Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown.
  • Pre-conference study materials and the California 4-H Citizenship backpack.
  • Mandatory pre-travel orientation program.

Delegates need approximately $200 personal spending money for snacks, meals and souvenirs not included in the program fee.
