4-H
Equine Education Advisory Committee
The 4-H Equine Education Advisory Committee is comprised of a diverse and representative group of 4-H Youth Development Program youth, volunteers, and staff with an interest in equine education. The purpose of the committee includes the following:
- Represent the interests of equine activities and programs throughout the state
- Organize and implement the annual 4-H Horse Classic (July)
- Organize and implement the annual 4-H Equine Field Day (October/November)
- Organize and implement the annual 4-H Equine Educational Contests (March & May)
- Organize and coordinate California’s delegation to the National 4-H Western Round-Up (January)
- To increase general equine awareness and educational opportunities
- Establish direction for statewide equine programs and identify opportunities for youth interested in the program
- Develop and maintain a budget for California equine events, including fundraising plans
- Gather input on program direction, events, educational opportunities and other matters pertaining to the California equine program
- To locate, review, and make recommendations on equine educational materials
- Seek collaborative opportunities with other groups or organizations as appropriate

Committee Member Responsibilities:
- Gather input on agenda items before meetings
- Attend all scheduled 4-H Equine Education Advisory Committee meetings
- Provide input on various equine issues facing the California YDP
- Express ideas and input from constituents and stakeholders of the equine education program
- Complete action items assigned at meetings
- With State 4-H Office oversight, maintain an external financial account
- Support educational opportunities for youth
- Must attend statewide equine events (currently, Horse Leadership Conference and Horse Classic)
Committee Membership:
The 4-H Equine Education Advisory Committee is composed of up to 16 members including:
Youth
Volunteers and Program Stakeholders
County Staff
Adults – Three-year terms, staggered
Youth – One-year term with option to renew for a second and third year
Meeting Dates:
Must be able to travel to attend three face-to-face meetings per year. Additional conference calls may be scheduled when issues arise that cannot wait until the next scheduled meeting.
