California 4-H Shooting SportsThe California 4-H Shooting Sports Program provides instruction in the safe handling of firearms and archery equipment, develops self-confidence and leadership abilities in 4‑H participants, and instills an appreciation for conservation and wildlife. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is a youth development education program. It uses the skills and disciplines of shooting to assist young people and their leaders in attaining knowledge and developing essential life skills. The program follows a standardized format, lists program components and identifies clearly intended learning outcomes. Trainings4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification for Archery A shooting sports training workshop for the archery discipline will be held in Clayton, CA on The course will be held at Diablo Bowmen in Clayton. For more info and directions to the club go to www.diablobowmen.org. Cost for the course will be $35 and includes morning refreshments, Saturday lunch and class materials. For the “Training Request & Registration Form” go to http://ca4h.org/projresource/shootingsports/index.asp or contact your county 4-H office. 4-H Shooting Sports Workshop Saturday, October 11, 2008 – 8:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. A 4-H shooting sports workshop for the rifle discipline will be held at Raahauge Shooting Enterprises, 14995 River Road in Corona. Participants must attend both days of training to receive certification. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will be certified as rifle trainer and can lead a rifle project at the club level or serve as county trainer to certify other leaders. There is no cost for the course. Continental breakfast and lunches will be provided both days courtesy of the Monte Vista Diamonds 4-H Club. To register for the course contact John Borba at: jaborba@ucdavis.edu For information about he facility and directions, please visit the range website at: Shooting Sports Leader Trainer Course Saturday, October 18, 2008 – 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Upon successful completion of this course, 4-H leaders will be certified in the shooting sports discipline of muzzle loading. They will be certified as leader trainers and are eligible to serve as shooting sports leaders for clubs or counties and they may also instruct and certify shooting sports volunteers. There is no fee for the course but class size is limited. To get more information or register for the class contact John Borba at: jaborba@ucdavis.edu or telephone 661-868-6216. 4-H Shooting Sports Course October 18 - 19, 2008 A shotgun trainer course will be held 9:00am-5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday, October 18-19, 2008 at the Ukiah Gun Club, in Mendocino County. Upon successful completion of this two-day course, participants will be certified as 4-H leader trainers, and will be eligible to serve as shooting sports project leaders, as well as instruct and certify other volunteers in the discipline of shotgun. Cost for the course is $30, which includes shotgun shells, clay targets, continental breakfast and lunch both days, and class materials. Teen Leaders may attend, with a participating adult volunteer. Limited camping space is available, contact John Holder for arrangements. The course will be limited to twenty (20) participants. You must be an appointed 4-H volunteer or member to attend this training.
