The 4-H Center for Youth Development (CYD) conducts and promotes collaborations in research and evaluation between University of California (UC) Cooperative Extension professionals and UC campus-based scientists that deepen our understanding of youth development in the contexts of family and community.

The mission of the CYD is to:

  1. Facilitate collaborations for and conduct research and evaluation that increases understanding of youth development in the contexts of family and community,
  2. Extend knowledge to UC Cooperative Extension and other youth professionals in the science of youth development, applied research, and evaluation,
  3. Provide communications to a broad range of stakeholders about the research, evaluation, education, and training activities of the CYD,
  4. Provide campus-based support that facilitates the ongoing research, evaluation, education, and training of UC Cooperative Extension professionals.

New obesity and diabetes study
Posted 8/31/2010 - A new study published by UCLA using California Health Interview Survey data focuses on the prevalence of obesity and diabetes in California counties.Overall, more than 25 percent of California adolescents are overweight or obese. 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development: Wave 7
Posted 7/13/2010 - Tufts has released the Wave 7 report for California for the 4-H Study of Positive Youth Development. A total of 115 youth from California participated in Wave 7 out of 1,341 youth nationally, with youth in the study being middle school and high school age. The report compares results for California youth in the study with youth in the 4-H Study nationwide. Overall positive youth development indicators and long term academic expectations for California youth look similar to the national values....

The Step-It-Up-2-Thrive Theory of Change
Posted 5/18/2010 - The Thrive Foundation of Menlo Park have developed a new program model within youth development programming, the Step-It-Up-2-Thrive theory of change. The 4-H Center for Youth Development have published a monograph describing the research underlying this model. The monograph is available on the 4-H Center's publications page.

The 4-H Center for Youth Development is housed in the third floor (3325) of Hart Hall on the UC Davis campus. The building is located in the core area of the campus, on the corner of West Quad and Shields Avenue. This area of campus is open to walking and bicycle traffic only. Visitor parking is available in lots or structures around the perimeter of the campus. The parking structure nearest Hart Hall is located at the North Entrance to the campus on Howard Way. Visitors can exit the 113 Freeway onto Russell Boulevard east, travel for approximately one mile, and turn right onto Howard Way. The parking structure is located on the left side of the street. Visitor parking passes can be purchased at the entrance to the parking structure. Short-term metered parking is available on the first floor of the parking garage.
